Pathology

The Department of Pathology provides comprehensive diagnostic services with emphasis on accuracy, precision and prompt reporting to both indoor and outdoor patients thereby helping and guiding the clinicians in proper patient management. This department is centrally located on the ground floor of the OPD complex. The facilities provided by the Pathology Department at Dr. MPK Hospital include: 

  • Blood sample collection of OPD patients from 9 AM- 3 PM daily.Except sunday
  • Blood sample collection at university dispensaries daily (Except Sunday)
  • The samples are tested in Pathology Department and reports are made available to patients in due time.

 The laboratory provides a complete range of investigations in the areas of:         

  • Haematology
  • Clinical Pathology
  • Biochemistry
  • Microbiology           

Haematology

This section deals with various haematological parameters, which include the following:       

  • Routine Tests    
    • Complete blood picture (CBP), Hemogram, platelet counts are done in automated blood cell counters.
    • ESR, Reticulocyte count.
    • Prothrombin time (PT)/ Activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT)-in Coagulometer.
    • Blood grouping and Rh typing.
    • Parasites: MP, microfilaria.
  • Clinical Pathology        
    • Urine routine/microscopic
    • Urine culture/ sensitivity
    • Urine- bile salt, bile pigment, ketone bodies, specific gravity
    • Urine RBC cytology
    • Stool- routine, occult blood
    • Semen analysis
  • Biochemistry: Most of the biochemical tests are done on fully automated Analyser.
    Routine Tests                                 
    • Blood sugar- fasting, post prandial, random, post glucose, sugar profile, glucose tolerance test.
    • Liver function test – Bilirubin (total and direct), ALT, ALP, GammaGT.
    • Kidney function test: Urea, creatinine, BUN.
    • Lipid profile, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol.
    • Serum Acid phosphatase, Amylase, Lipase.
    • CRP, Serum Uric acid.
  • Microbiology
    Tests done           
    • AFB stain.
    • Widal test.
    • VDRL test.
    • Rheumatoid factor.
    • Dengue rapid card test.
    • Urine for pregnancy test.
